laurie landry hand-carved pottery

I'm a ceramic artist living in Minnetrista, MN.

The vast majority of my pottery is hand-carved.  Carving is my absolute favorite part of working with clay.  The images that I make on my pottery are inspired by nature.  My grandparents imigarated to MN from Holland and as a small child  I played and "worked" in the family nursery business.  This is where I came to love dirt and plants.  Some of my pots are carved in stoneware and the rest in porcelain.  I apply a thin slip of black underglaze to the leather hard porcelain and carve through, a process known as Sgraffito.  My stoneware pots are glazed with multiple matte glazes to emphasize the carved detail.  Everything is final fired cone 10 reduction for  beauty and strength.
